Wind is a natural source of energy which is kinetic in nature. It is actually a form of solar energy. Now you must be thinking, how wind power can be a form of solar energy? Let me tell you that the source of wind power is the heat of the sun itself. When the solar radiation touch earth’s surface, it heats up every part of the earth’s surface, such as sand, water, stone and soil, but the amount of heat the different surfaces of earth absorb, retain, reflect and release is different from each other. The amount of heat during the daytime is more as compared to the night time.

Wind energy is very effective which has been used for years for the purpose of making electricity, for mechanical power, for pumping water or drainage, or sails to propel ships etc. People have been using wind power for propel sailboats and sailing ships. Moreover the architects have also used wind-driven natural ventilation in buildings. However, have you ever noticed, since the time when mankind started inventing new things, they have been utilizing natural energies to get their work done? When you peep into back in history, you will find that man has been using wind power since its inception, like in ancient times, for grinding grain, people used wind mills. Now we can admit that wind power is definitely not a new energy source, it actually is quite old way of energy usage. The only difference between the old way and the new way of applying wind power is that it is now more effective and easy than the older one. Nowadays, people have made the wind mills that work with rotor and generator.

These days, the shortage of resources can be seen all around, while wind is the source of energy that can be found in unlimited amount and free in every part of the world. Utilizing this great source of energy can benefit the whole mankind to a larger extent. However, unlike the other sources of energy, the uses of wind energy won’t produce any kind of pollutant or produces no greenhouse gas emissions during operation. The best thing about using wind energy is that it is renewable, widely distributed, and clean.

The only drawback is that in order to make a wind firm to produce wind energy, a large tract of land along with coastline to obtain greatest wind movements. Besides that getting an area of this kind to wind power generation may create conflicts with other kinds of priorities, such as agriculture, urban development, or waterfront views from expensive homes in prime locations etc. However, as all the resources of energy are declining day by day, wind as an unlimited energy source will always be available to us. By realizing the fact, if we use this great source of energy in proper way, it will provide us enormous benefits. Finally, we can say that nature has gifted us with plentiful energy sources, but it’s the human who never uses them to the optimum level.

Wind is a natural power resource which keeps circulating around earth all the time. Now, the biggest question is, “how is wind generated?” When sun rays fall on earth’s surface it heats up the earth’s surface which results in rise in temperature. Now, this kind of heating is not equal in all parts of the earth. It is unequal. There are parts of earth which are heated up to a large extent and because of this the air in such places become lighter and starts moving up. The gap between the earth’s surface and the warm air gets filled by the air which is heavy. This heavy air comes from the adjoining cooler places. This results in the origination of power known as wind power.

The usage of wind power is more popular in countries like United States of America, Germany and Denmark. Slowly and steadily, people are getting more and more aware about the usage of wind for various tasks. The basic idea is to tap the power or the energy of wind and utilize it in various ways. This energy can be harnessed and can be turned in to mechanical energy and even electricity. For the purpose of generation of various types of energies form wind power, people have devised wind mills. These wind mills are specifically made in order to utilize wind power. Wind mills comprises of wind turbines that actually works towards converting wind power into electrical power. These wind turbines work with usually three propeller blades which are all attached to a single rotor.

The rotor and blades are fixed with a shaft which is movable and is attached with a generator which runs on electricity. These blades move to generate wind which in return generates kinetic and electrical energy. This energy can be used in systems which have been developed to run on wind. The best part about utilizing this power called wind is that it is absolutely free of cost. There is no price tag attached to it. There are no fossil fuels or reserves utilized to generate this power. It is free and no one has to pay for it. Apart from this, another big advantage of using wind mills is that this does not result in emission of any kind of pollutant in air, soil or water.

This is nature friendly. If we look at the process of its generation, we can easily understand that this reserve can never end. It is unlimited. Today when there is lots of scarcity of resources all around, it is very positive sign that we have got a natural resource which can be used over and over again.

With so many advantages attached to it, there is no doubt that this thing called wind mill is one of the best inventions of mankind. It will help mankind to fight against scarcity of resources and wiping off pollution to a great extent. Are you all set to be part of this new generation?

Forget what you think! It is just an unwarranted assumption that wind power can only be used to generate electricity. The number of applications it can support directly or indirectly is also unbelievable. Thanks to its environment-friendly nature, pretty soon all these applications would be used at large scale by the forth coming generations. Speak of any application, either household or industrial; wind energy has earned a place in almost every sector and continues to be a prime ingredient of many yet to be relinquished innovations.

Water pumping for example is an application where wind power is being used extensively both at homes as well as in businesses as a standalone system. Water, as it is well known, is the secret of our lives and as such a reliable and continuous supply of clean water in one of the basic needs. Needless to say the most widely consumed element on the surface of this earth must of course be mad available to the public in the least expensive way that is possible. Mechanical water pumping systems have been used since long however its efficiency has always been not up to the mark. Hence, the wind electric pumping system, which works on the basic principles of a mechanical pump except that the water pumps is electrical and the electricity required to run it, is produced by wind power. Here the energy transformations are quite efficient yielding tremendous water output and as a blessing – it is maintenance free!

The water pumping system is simple and comprises mainly of a turbine, pumping head and equipment sizing. The volume of water that is to be pumped in depends on the size of the turbine being used, total pumping head and of course the wind speed. The turbine’s performance is also dependent on its rotor diameter and they are typically installed by system designers at high altitudes to subject it to optimum wind speed. The pumping head refers to a combination of the static head, the well drawdown and pipe friction. The first denotes the distance between the water storage tank outlet and the water level below the ground i.e. the water table and the well drawdown is the level up to which the water levels off while pumping. There could be losses due to friction in the pipe during pumping which can be compensated with extra pumping heads.

Similarly other household applications that are run using wind power include refrigeration and freezing, as heaters and coolers, and lighting. In industries, the applications using wind power are ever growing. It is primarily used for applications with low fuel efficiencies. Some applications that are employing wind power include telecommunications especially in radar systems. It is used as a navigational aid in pipeline control systems. Further uses have been identified in weather forecasting, seismic monitoring, cathodic protection and last but not the least in air-traffic control (ATC) systems. Wind power systems for industries are manufactured with more robustness and are expected to be maintenance free or with minimal maintenance than household applications.

Since a long time ago, ancient people had known the benefit of wind to help their life easier. In Babylonia and China, for instance, nearly 4000 years ago the inhabitants of two regions used the power of the wind to pump water for their crops. While in Europe in middle ages, people used wind power to grind grain for their food. In modern living, wind power is used for greater benefit.

In certain region of the world which receives lots of wind, German for instance, uses the wind power to generate electricity. As time goes by, when people start to realize how useful it is to ‘farm’ wind and apply its energy for supporting modern life, companies called wind power manufacturers begin to establish their businesses.

Wind power in short term is a way of how we use the wind energy converted into other form of useful energy, such as electricity. The conversion process done by machines called Wind Generators (25km/h). They consist of blades or turbines or propellers which turn the generator to load the energy storage. Then the Wind power manufacturers place the machines in areas which receive great wind-the coast, top hills or plain areas-to maximize wind farming. The process itself is similar to battery charging.
The wind power contributes about 1.5% of electricity usage in the year 2008. Some countries have shared penetration of their wind power use in high levels. Denmark, for example, reached 19% of its stationary electricity production from wind power. Spain and Portugal has 11% of it, while German and Ireland got 7%. At the beginning of 2009, eight more countries (some of them are China, Canada, India, and Mexico) use the power of wind for their commercial sectors.

In USA, Texas is counted as the best region in installing wind power over 1,000 Megawatts. It stands right in the second place after California in wind farming.

List of The Wind Power Manufacturers

Farming the wind seemed to be a promising business. From time to time the rise of the companies which dedicated to manufacture wind power is doubled in numbers. Here are the three of the well-known wind power manufacturers:

Vestas (Denmark)

Vestas (Vestas Wind System) is one of the biggest wind power manufacturers in the world. It provides full range of products in turbines systems. Vestas has plants in Denmark, Germany, India, Italy, Britain, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Australia, China, Windsor and Colorado.

GE Energy (United States)

GE is also one of the leading wind turbine suppliers in the world. It has more than 8,000 wind turbine installation in worldwide which manufacturing in Germany, Spain, China, Canada, and the United States.

Gamesa (Spain)

Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica is a manufacturing company based in Vitoria –Gasteiz, Spain. It’s a leading company in Spain and sells wind farms and supplies turbines. Its reputation as wind power manufacturer has spread across four continents.
The demand of energy consumption is getting higher from time to time. Unfortunately, the sources of energy are limited. Wind energy which can be converted to electricity is an alternative to solve the problem. It’s renewable, environmental friendly, caused no pollution and no noise, and also less cost in budget. We could eliminate our dependency for sources of energy to coal or power plants forever.

The existence of wind power manufacturers help people to start thinking about alternative energy which meet the needs of electricity source yet keep the earth clean from pollutions.

You have seen a windmill in most typical Holland postcards. It looks similar to airplane propellers but instead of stirring the wind to create a powerful thrust to move the plane, it does the reverse. A typical wind turbine waits for the wind blow in order to work. So depending on the wind direction the propeller must turn to face the wind flow perpendicularly. Usually, a yaw or a flipper that looks like an airplane’s tail is used to guide the wind blades to face the wind.

As windmills have been in use since 200 BC, there are a lot of lessons learned from typical Holland-type windmills, or what are technically known as horizontal axis wind turbines.

Have you seen a windmill that looks like an egg beater? This generation of wind powered electricity generator is an ingenious idea that hopes to eliminate the weaknesses of ancient designs. Here are some reasons why such design is superior to their horizontal counterparts:

Horizontal types have trouble operating because of wind turbulence and just above the ground. Vertical types could harness even wind airflow just above the ground.

Cost-wise, the construction of high pylons to mount horizontal wind blades is not needed in vertical designs. Aside from its difficulty to install, a horizontal design would need a crane to construct and do periodic maintenance on the turbine and blades.

Because horizontal designs need to turn around and adjust to wind direction, its mechanical parts are always subject to stress, fatigue and structural failure. Wear and tear is observed faster in horizontal designs than in vertical types.

Tall horizontal windmills may impair the proper reading in airport radars.

Today, modern designs of vertical wind turbines are like rotating sails. With this, wherever wind direction comes in, the structure does not have to move, just the sails do.

Home wind power is a goal shared by many around the world. The ability to fully supply one’s home energy needs using renewable energy sources is beginning to get on everyone’s to-do list of home improvements. And for good reason. It’s clean, green energy, which is good for the planet, and it’s becoming cheaper each year for the average homeowner to get started. The two ways to go about doing this are solar power and wind power. For now, we’ll discuss home wind power.

The wind is a boutiful resource, depending of course on exactly where you live. And best of all, wind power is probably the cheapest home renewable energy source you can start with. A general sized residential wind turbine costs around $200 to build.

An easy search on Google about residential wind turbines will suggest that there are many ways on how to create and assemble one. But even though these power generators can be designed and constructed in the many ways, expect that these power generators have five things in common. The commonalities include the presence of the generator, the blades, the presence of the mounting that will keep it turned into wind, the tower, the batteries and the electronic control system. These elements should be present when you want to develop your very own diy wind generator. You can use the many resources that you can find on the internet to create the design and the look that you want for your home.

I’ve found what I believe to be one of the best resources currently available for doing this specific build…..

Among the few guides you can find online, this one is the most researched, and is put together extremely well.

Step by by step instructions make it really easy for the average eco conscious person to get going with home wind power.

Small wind turbine generators are used at farms or small industrial sites and homes. It is also used with diesel generators or connected to electrical supply grid. Those connected to electrical grids only pays for the electricity they use from the electrical company. The small systems located in remote areas and distant from electrical grid supply maintain sufficient electrical supply through the use of batteries and other energy storage gadget.

There are two types of small wind turbines; the HAWT or Horizontal Axis Wind Turbines which is the type commonly installed currently. In this model, the shaft is parallel to the ground and mechanically simple that requires a small ‘footprint’ to mount the tower on ground. On the other hand, VAWT or Vertical Axis Wind Turbines have its shaft perpendicular to the ground and requires a larger ‘footprint’ to secure the tower on ground.

The components of small wind system include the 1) rotor consisting of blades and shaft; 2) the generator/alternator producing electricity from the turbine rotor; 3) the gearbox used to match rotor speed to the generator; 4) the nacelle protects the generator/alternator and 5) the tail vane of Yaw system used to align a HAWT with the wind however some yaw system can be offset from the vertical axis.

In addition, the following components usually are packaged as part of small wind turbines. These include 1) the control and protection system, 2) the tower (tilt-up towers, guyed towers and non-tilt-up or self-supporting towers) and depending on the application, ‘balance-of-system’ (BOS) are often sold separately. These include 1) batteries, 2) inverter, 3) rectifier, 4) battery charger, 5) alternative electricity source, 6) circuit breakers, fuses, disconnect switches other safety gadgets, and 7) monitoring system.

If energy savings is the ultimate objective, then it is suggested to make a wind turbine and generate savings from it. If you do that, you not only do a favor to your wallet but you do a favor to environment as well since this makes use of a renewable energy source, is clean and pollutant-free as well. When you make a wind turbine inside your property, expect a significant change in the budget for energy expense. The typical wind turbine has the capability to reduce the household’s electricity bill by 50 to 90 percent.

Based on some studies and observations, the households with this wind turbine usually have monthly utility bills of $8 to $15 for nine months on the span of the year. That amount signifies great savings and great help for the family. And for the northern part of the country where the air conditioning system is less used, the savings that can be generated will be greater. The amount of savings that can be generated from the wind turbine on the long run will actually depend on a number of factors like the cost, the amount of electricity you use and the average wind speed in the area. The typical household will use around 9,400 kWh of this electricity for every year. And depending on the average wind speed in the area, the device rated in the range of 5 to 15 kilowatts will be required to meet the demands of the home. Though the amount of saving may fluctuate from time to time, it still pays to make a wind turbine.
